Layering Retinoids

DOs:⁣ ✔️RETINOID ➕HYALURONIC ACID (HA): Retinoids are a power house for the treatment of acne & prevention of premature aging but also notable for their ability to cause a lot of irritation & dryness to skin. HA is a top notch hydrating ingredient that draws in & retains water in skin which will alleviate the dryness caused by retinoids. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣

✔️RETINOID ➕NIACINAMIDE: Niacinamide has calming properties given its anti-inflammatory effect & ability to repair skin’s barrier. It not only helps counteract the irritation from retinoids but boosts effectiveness given its anti-hyperpigmentation & anti-aging benefits. ⁣ ⁣

DON’Ts:⁣ ⁣ ??RETINOID + BHA (salicylic)/AHA: While they all have great synergistic benefits when it comes to skin cell turnover, they can cause serious dryness & irritation to skin especially in sensitive skin. It is best to separate them to AM (AHA/BHA) and PM (retinol) use in your routine instead of layering. ⁣ ⁣

??‍♀️ RETINOID + VITAMIN C (L-ascorbic Acid) : Using these two together can boost anti aging effectiveness of your skincare routine. However, to minimize irritation and sensitivity to skin, it’s best to separate between AM ⁣ (Vit.C) & PM (retinoid)⁣ ⁣

??‍♀️RETINOID + BENZOYL (BPO): Used together, they boost effectiveness of acne treatment. However, separate these two into AM (BPO) & PM (retinoid) to avoid over irritation to skin. Some research suggest BPO can reduce effectiveness of retinoid when layered.⁣ ⁣

??‍♀️RETINOID + WAXING: Retinoids make skin sensitive & fragile. To avoid burning, irritation & skin tears, skip retinoids for at least a week before waxing.
