Why Do People Get These at a Young Age?

Young Age

Q U E S T I O N

“PROMINENT Laugh Lines at 26?! They don’t feel deep and I can’t sense any volume depletion. I have a hydrating skincare routine and wear SPF. What gives?”

1. Whenever I have had really deep smile lines (for my young age) it was always a result of drastic weight loss, playing around in the sun, and dehydration. Maintaining a healthy weight, and using tretinoin always got me looking my age again.

2. What’s your diet like? I’d try an omega 3 supplement and reducing omega 6, it’s done wonders for my skin, it was dry and prematurely aged. I take a double dose of omega 3 and saw results after about 8 weeks.

3. I have those. Just put some concealer a little lighter than your face in the lines when you want them to be less noticeable. I use fillers once & a while (I’m 57 & started in my 40s). It takes me about a month to heal up after injecting. So plan ahead for reunions, weddings…

4. It’s probably just the shape of your face. 🙂 Mine is quite similar to yours also with a prominent upper lip and down turned corners of the mouth, which makes my laugh lines appear even deeper. As I started getting older I really stressed at first because I noticed that my laugh lines, in particular, were getting bigger. But then I realized that if my laugh lines were worsening it meant that I was laughing & now I’m starting to actually warm up to them. Dryness and redness do exacerbate them so it would be worth trying to keep that area of your face extra hydrated and protected, especially if you use tretinoin.

Cicaplast baume is a great product for the redness. Maybe you could try applying it under or over your tretinoin? Also, make sure you use a good sunscreen in the daytime: Tretinoin will make your skin more sensitive and if you don’t use sunscreen you might end up worsening your wrinkles.

5. I have seen people get hyaluronic injections to smooth them out. Worked well in their before and after it seemed!

6. My esthetician warned me against filler because it is temporary & you have to redo it. I can’t afford that so I’m just learning to love facial diversity. 7. I think this might just be how your face is. 🙂 Try not to worry too much! And just keep using your Retin-A.

I also experienced this when I lost a lot of weight (drastically) in my mid 20’s. What do you think? Let’s chat below.
