How to remove scars on legs fast with chemical peels, hi everyone in today’s video we’ll be covering the different strengths of peels andthe best peels for your skin concern or skin typewe’ll be looking at how I administer a chemical peel on my face and on my body what to dobefore and after a peal and products that willmake your results ten times better number one, types, there are three main types of peels, light or superficial peels medium depth peels and deep peels for light peels they include glycolic acid 10 to 50 percent, lactic acid 10 to 30 percent,mandelic acid 40 percent and salicylic acid 30 percent, these type of peels can be done at home but you need to have several sessions done before you see significant improvement, it removes the top layer but doesn’t penetrate as deep, next medium depth, these include glycolic acid 70 percent salicylic acid over 30 percent and TCA peal 30 to 50 percent, this is kind of a sweet spot for me because it’s not a deep peel to where I would burn myself but at the same time i can administer and see significant improvement because it penetrates much deeper than the epidermic, it goes to the dermis, at least the top layer of the dermis and it helps with pigmentation issues number three deep peels, these ones are hardcore these needusually a physician not even a professional at the spot, they address anti-aging issues, pigmentation issues but like I mentioned they’re hardcore, they go deep deep into the dermis so be careful well you can’t even do it on your own, next the best chemical peels for your skin concern and oryour skin type so if you’re someone who has darker skin if you have dry skin if you have sensitiveskin you will benefit from using lactic acid and mandelic acid peels these peels are very gentle ifyou have acne prone skin or oily skin salicylic acid or jessner peel are two peels that you will find very beneficial for glycolic acid that worksfor all skin types but if you have super sensitiveskin you may want to avoid glycolic acid although it’s very effective and then if you have highpigmentation peels such as TCA, VI peel, cosmelan are great peels.
Now onto demonstration i’m goingto be doing my face and my body, the products I’ll be using are gentle cleanser latex freegloves alcohol wipes petroleum jelly to protectchemical peels lactic acid glycolic acid TCA, I’m going to be using TCA for my legs and glycolic acid formy elbows and lactic acid for my face, that’s mybowl and my fan brush my moisturizer, my sunscreen, my cotton rounds and my body lotion, let’s go alright first I’m gonna be cleansing my face, all right so we can get a fresh palette, wipe it off I’m gonna be using alcohol wipes to remove any um residue and all and then I’m gonna be protecting with the petroleum jelly my eyes, my nose, my mouth now I’m gonna be taking the peel just using my fan brush to gently apply it allover my face I’m using 25 percent lactic acid because I don’t want to burn myself, I generally don’t likeadministering the peel on my face, when I do it has to be a lightpeel, all right that’s it i’mgonna time myself for this peel I waited about two minutes I believe and then I neutralize it with water, you can neutralize with baking soda as well and then I apply the moisturizer, a gelmoisturizer so it can soothe my skin and after my moisturizer, I applied a sunscreen next, I’m going to be demonstrating how I applyit on my legs, I’m doing the same thing cleansing my skin all right I’m going to be using a TCA peel30% I wouldn’t try this on my face at home, I’m just so scared I don’t want to burn my skin and I use tretinoin anyway so I try to stay away from um strong peels on my face allright I’m applying it on my leg generally, TCA peel can be applied onto so youcan use three for about four layers actually in this video I only did two layers and I still got some peeling and that’s it plan it all over this is the first layer, I’m gonna come back for a second later, my problem area is my feet really just really got dark so I’m trying to treat that, if you look at my legs you can see some spots thatare still fading but my legs have come a long way for sure all right here I’m just neutralizing the peel although TCA peels self-neutralize so you don’t even need to neutralize them and then I’m applying a soothing body lotion on my legs yeah and that is it for the legs.
Next, whatyou do before and after a peel. Before the peel, if you go see a specialist or physician they’re gonna have you stop exfoliating one week before your chemical peels, first they’re gonna take your medical history if everything’s fine and they’ll have you stop exfoliating one week before at least one week or about a week before your chemical peel they would also have you stop things like retinoids pigment lighteners and acne medication because these things impact how your skin tolerates the peel right and last products to use to make your results 10times better if you go see a dermatologist, for example, to get a chemical peel they would put you on retinoids and/or pigment lighteners for four to six weeks before your chemical peel. These medications will help speed up your results right and also as a safety measure things like retinoids help the healing process so when you get a chemical peel it’s kind of like lifting I don’tknow like a sheet almost so when your skin peels, then you see fresh new skin. The Importance of Consistency
I get my sensitive and spot retaining skin from my mom. Growing up, I would watch her spots/scars, and skin issues fade much faster than mine, even though she was older and had a slower skin cell turnover. This happened because she was very consistent with her routine, while I was the complete opposite-inconsistent and approached my routine in a lackadaisical manner.
The nighttime routine is so essential, yet that’s what most people skip because they’re tired. Even if you miss your routine for one reason or the other, pick yourself back up the next day. Right your wrongs and keep it pushing.
Strategy: Try to get your routine done earlier in the day before your willpower depletes.
Importance of Sun Protection
When you expose your skin to the sun, your skin’s way of protecting you is by producing more melanin. What does this mean for your dark marks and scars? It means they get darker and harder to treat. So, be sure to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.
When to Expect Results
Kojic acid and glycolic acid (3 -6 months on the body might take longer than six months if you have a skin that retains spot)
Tretinoin & spot lighteners – hydroquinone (1-3 months 3 -6 months on the body. Probably come about faster if you don’t have a skin that retains spots)
Chemical peels: Cosmelan after 3-6 weeks, VI peel after 3 – 6 treatments. However, you’d notice some improvement after your first treatment. 3(a). Glycolic acid & TCA peel: After 2-4 treatments (although you will notice some improvement after the first peel).
Laser Treatment results are first visible about 2 or 3 weeks after the first appointment.
I went through a phase of my life where I had a lot on my plate. So, I stumbled upon this Adderall-like pill that was supposed to help me juggle it all and decided to give it a go. The medication was supposed to make you superhuman-kinda like the guy in limitless, but that pill was bad news. Not only did it stress out my entire being & mess up my health, but I watched my skin get darker even though I was maintaining the same skincare routine. It all came down to one major habit: not getting enough sleep. So bad habits and not getting enough sleep can affect your appearance and cause your skin to get darker. That’s point number 1
Number 2 – Sun exposure
When I was younger, I thought it was a brilliant idea to study outside. Then, I wasn’t well educated on the harmful effects of the sun, so I would apply creams, including a cream as strong as hydroquinone, and then go and sit outside all afternoon. Not only did my spots take longer to fade, but my skin got darker even though I was diligent with my skincare routine. So frequent sun exposure can cause your skin to get darker.
Number 3 – Sunscreen
On more than one occasion, I’ve had someone tell me that they think that their sunscreen is making them darker. What is that all about? I’ve read that if your sunscreen stresses your skin, it can cause your skin to get darker. The critical ingredient that is at the root of this stress is oxybenzone. Thankfully, In recent times though, many brands have started avoiding this ingredient and not including it in their sunscreen. Another potential cause of your skin getting darker after applying sunscreen is white cast. This effect is prevalent with a lot of mineral sunscreens. Mineral sunscreens usually contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide; these ingredients leave a white cast on the skin. Over time that white cast turns grey, and the result is your skin looking darker because it has this grey cast over it (I learned this from a fellow YouTuber, Chuks )
Number 4 – Another cause is your skincare products.
Sometimes brands change the formulation of their products, and when you restock and continue using the product, as usual, you realize it’s no longer “giving what it was supposed to give” (credit: rolling ray). For some reason, it no longer has that brightening effect it had before.
Number 5 – Not being consistent with your routine or trying a new skincare product.
Life happens, you get overwhelmed, and then suddenly you slack on your skincare routine. This can cause your skin to get darker because whatever was causing your skin to be bright and vibrant, you’re no longer feeding it to your skin. Another one is trying a new skincare product. If you notice that your skin has gotten darker since adding a new skincare product, that could signify that your skin is not happy with that product. It could be irritating your skin, and it could be clashing with another product you’re using.
Number 6 – Skincare Products and factors that cause the skin to get darker
First, no one maintains the same skin tone throughout the years, but some things can accelerate the process, such as environmental conditions, and stress levels. Photosensitive skincare products can cause your skin to get darker when you apply it and expose yourself to the sun without protection—examples: AHA, BHA, Retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, fruit enzymes.
Now let’s address this common question.
Why is my face darker than my body?
All the reasons mentioned above apply here, but there are some additional causative factors. They include medications you’re taking (e.g., non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, amiodarone, and cytotoxic drugs), if you have an autoimmune disease, if you are experiencing hormonal changes and your genetics.
Skincare ingredients and habits that can brighten up the skin
Combining tretinoin with your skin brightening products
Some vitamin c serums, and alpha arbutin, AHAs, sunscreen.
Habits: Avoiding the sun, getting 8 hrs of sound sleep, limiting your sugar intake, and eating fruits and vegetables that brighten the skin, such as strawberries, orange, grapefruit, lemon, eggs, avocado, pineapple, tomatoes, walnuts, spinach, turmeric.

Things of Hyperpigmentation:
1. Number one, not all ingredients are created equal. And some over-the-counter products are a joke tbh.
Here’s the hierarchy: Hydroquinone (especially ones over 4%)-is the gold standard but it has a lot of controversy surrounding it. That said, when you visit a dermatologist and you have some serious hyperpigmentation, especially around your body, this is what they’re gonna give you. All things being equal, this is the prescription they are going to write you. They are not gonna bring up niacinamide or vitamin c even kojic acid.
The next after that is azelaic acid 20% or cysteamine. Cysteamine is the new chick on the block but she’s good. The next is kojic acid or arbutin then tranexamic acid, then Ascorbic acid, then niacinamide.
2. The second thing to know is that combination is king. Monotherapy- that is using one product- will have you waiting for years. If you want to see results within a reasonable timeframe, combination therapy is the way to go.
Often, a dermatologist will combine a tyrosinase inhibitor or a couple of tyrosinase inhibitors with exfoliants or retinoids. Here are common combinations 1. Azelaic acid and tretinoin 2. Hydroquinone and tretinoin 3. Azelaic acid, hydroquinone, and tretinoin 4. Kojic acid and glycolic acid 5. Vitamin c and niacinamide, and aha 6. Vitamin c niacinamide and kojic acid.
Sometimes when you have stubborn spots, a dermatologist will introduce chemical peels or lasers For example, they will treat you with topical treatments for a while, ask you to take a break from them, and then start treating you with chemical peels.
3. Respect Sunscreen and Sun Protection: If you are on Instagram you’ve probably been harassed by a skincare influencer to wear your sunscreen but this is apt as sun exposure will take you 10 steps back. Especially when it comes to treating hyperpigmentation. I personally don’t rely on sunscreen, I stay away from the sun between 11 am and 4 pm. And I cover up my body.
4. Results: One of the best things you can learn about dark spots is that they will not disappear overnight, but if you persist, one day you’ll look for them and you won’t be able to find them. If this isn’t your mindset, then it’s likely that you’ll give up. Cause after one week, you’ll look in the mirror, see it’s still there then you’ll say it’s not working. When in reality you’re supposed to give it 1-3 months (for your face) and 3-6 months(for your body).
5. Coverage: While you’re treating your hyperpigmentation, life has to go on. If you are self-conscious about your dark spots and want to cover them up, here are two brands to check out: Dermaablend and Sally Hansen. Dermablend has both face and body makeup that have great coverage and Sally Hansen has a product called airbrush legs, it is lightweight but it still gets the job done.
